Emma's New Trick

The girl can really throw her weight around, as you can see in this video. It is a 3 meg download, so have much patience if you are on dialup.

Father's Birthday

My father was born 90 years ago. To mark that birthday, I poured a bottle of beer over his grave and left it at the edge of the grave marker. I used a Swiss Army knife to open it. Back in THE DAY I would have opened it on the front fender well of the farm pickup. But that was when I could get a half a tank of gas for $2... those days are gone forever.

Sadness at the New Bike Trailhead

Not everyone is as pleased with the new bike trail as I am. I rode to the trail head at Wilson Road with my friend Gene and we found two dead coyotes lying beside the parking lot. They had been shot and dumped there. We carried them across the road and left them in the trees there. Gene told me that the day the new trail was dedicated two headless deer carcasses had been left in the same place. Clearly there is at least one troubled individual around here who seems to be an excellent shot. Sad and worrisome. I didn't post a picture this time. What would be the point?

Emma's Christmas

Emma is just 7 months old and cares only about the paper. I don't think that will be true next year!

Charlie Brown TV Specials Aren't as Exciting as They Once Were!

Grandma and Ethan are watching the Charlie Brown special while Emma sleeps. Back in THE DAY this was a lot more exciting than Ethan thinks it is! Such is progress.

3000 Miles on a Bike

This is my friend Gene completing his 3000th mile on a bicycle this year. December 11th at 4:30 in the afternoon. Note the absence of a jacket! It was 65 degrees that afternoon. Gene offers me a lot of hope as he is about 10 years older than I am. I probably rode 1000 miles this year, so I have some work to do next year! Congratulations, Gene!
